The Liturgy will be led by Ms. Marcelle Devine, the Coordinator for Religious Education at Our Lady of Good Counsel.
The Liturgy of the Word for Children will begin with an invitation by the celebrant of the Mass for the children to come forward from their pews and assemble in front of the altar. They will then be escorted by Ms. Devine into the adjoining sacristy where the readings of the Mass will be explained to them in an age-appropriate manner. At the time of the Presentation of the the Gifts they will be led in procession down the main aisle, whereupon they will rejoin their families in the pews for the remainder of the Mass.

The Religious Education Program at Our Lady of Good Counsel offers a well-rounded Catholic education for school aged children beginning with the 1st grade and continuing through Confirmation. The program is offered in both English and Spanish. Catechists (teachers) in the program are volunteers and each are actively involved in many other aspects of the church.
In 1902, Archbishop Michael Corrigan established the Confraternity of the Christian Doctrine (CCD) in New York, and in the United States. Msgr. James Connolly, then Pastor of OLGC, served as the first Spiritual Director of CCD which was introduced in New York by Marion Gurney. Ms. Gurney also founded the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine. On May 13, 1903 the first group of catechists was formally commissioned at OLGC thereby marking the very first formalized religious education program in the US (and hence the longest running program in the Nation).
