The Cardinal’s decision to keep our beloved church open while administratively merging it with the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel was a welcome compromise. The Cardinal’s decision was communicated directly to parishioners in a briefly worded email. Subsequently, a follow-up was shared by Fr Madigan at each of the weekend masses as well as included in the bulletin and website. In response to parishioner questions and to clarify impact of the Cardinal’s decision, a further explanation was similar disseminated by the Pastor via email, printed in the bulletin and posted on the website. With the uncertainly surrounding this decision now behind us, we can focus on planning on making our two parishes better than the sum of their individual parts. For now, we will await the Archdiocese’s decision on the new Pastor for the combined parishes due by July 1.
Over the past month, the Parish Council celebrated the work of our parish clergy and staff at the annual dinner. Family Day food and fun was enjoyed by many youngsters, many of whom were enchanted by Looney Looey’s magic tricks. Registration for the 2015 – 2016 Religious Education program has filled classes for Grade 1 and 2 children. Parents still interested should contact the Parish office for additional information.
As summer approaches, your Parish Council will be officially ending its year. The last meeting will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 @ 6:45pm. All are welcome. Over the summer, the Family Coffee Hour following the 10:00am Family Mass and our monthly first Sunday Cocktail Hour following the 5:45pm Mass will continue. We look forward to seeing you there!
Respectfully submitted by,
Alicia Damley, Secretary, STM Parish Council
